1,000 Atal Tinkering Labs to be established in State: Minister

Minister for School Education, Youth Welfare and Sports Development K.A. Sengottaiyan has said that 1,000 Atal Tinkering Laboratories will be established in the State to create an environment of scientific temperament among school students.
As part of World Space Week 2019, Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota, School Education Department and Gobi Arts and Science College, Gobichettipalayam organised the ISRO Space Exhibition 2019 on the college premises. It was inaugurated by Mr. Sengottaiyan, Minister for Environment K.C. Karuppannan and former Governor of Kerala P. Sathasivam in the presence of Collector C. Kathiravan and Director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre A. Rajarajan.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sengottaiyan said that the exhibition is a platform for school students to know about space science and develop interest in it. “Individuals have their own skills and it is a chance for them to develop it,” he said and added that the government will support students who have interest in space exploration. Mr. Karuppannan pointed out that scientists from the State are contributing to space exploration and technological development across the world and called upon the students to bring out their talents.
Justice (retd) Sathasivam detailed the history of space research in the country. He said that students can become scientists, judges or experts in the field they like for which the foundation should be at the school level. 150 models were exhibited by the school and college students, while ISRO displayed models of rockets and various missions, including Chandrayaan – 2. The exhibition is open for school students on October 6 and 7.
