Public, private sector banks reach out to customers

Representatives of banks met customers, explained the products that the banks offer, and even gave in principle approvals at an outreach programme organised by the District Lead Bank - Canara Bank - here on Friday.
The two-day programme in Coimbatore (October 4 and 5) at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam has the participation of both public and private sector banks.
There are stalls by some of the government departments too.
District Lead Bank Manager S. Venkataraman said the banks were focusing on retail, agriculture, and MSME loans. The bank representatives explained the various loan products and directed the interested customers to the branches. If the customers came with the documents, in principle approval was also given. The outreach programme was on for almost a week now at all the bank branches too. Some of the loans would be disbursed on Saturday at the valedictory of the programme. “This (the outreach programme) is only for fresh loans. In rural areas, the branches are reaching out to customers,” he said. Coimbatore district has 830 bank branches in total.
The loan applications that were received at the branches during the last one week were processed and the loans would be disbursed on Saturday.
Though details of total amount sanctioned by the banks will be known only on Saturday, it is learnt that one or two banks have given approval for even Rs.150 crore to MSMEs.
