Action sought against those who assaulted MNM workers

Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) State vice-president R. Mahendran on Thursday petitioned the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural, seeking action against those who allegedly assaulted three party workers at a Gram Sabha held at Chinna Thadagam on Wednesday.
Social activist Joshua G.P.N., who was allegedly assaulted by a some brick kiln owners and their workers at a Gram Sabha held at Veerapandi also petitioned the two officials seeking the arrest of the attackers.
Mr. Mahendran petitioned the officials after visiting the three injured party workers namely Suresh, Prabhu and Babu at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital along with N. Parameshwaran (Coimbatore north district in-charge).
A release said that the party president Kamal Haasan spoke to the three persons over phone, enquired about their health and extended his support. It said that the Collector and the SP have assured swift action on the petition.
Mr. Joshua sought the arrest of brick kiln owners and their workers, who allegedly assaulted him. He also sought protection for him.
Complaint lodgedMeanwhile, R. Jothimani from Chinna Thadagam lodged a complaint with the Thadagam police alleging that S. Ganesh, who has been campaigning against red earth mining in Thadagam valley, was spreading false information on the mining activity to undermine brick kiln business. The police issued a community service register (CSR) on the complaint on Wednesday.
Mr. Ganesh on Thursday submitted a petition to the SP alleging that Ms. Jothimani filed the complaint portraying him as an anti-social with vested interests.
